White Horse – Surry Hills

Within a refined hospitality setting, the courtyard required greenery that complemented curved planter boxes, textured tiles and integrated seating while introducing depth and softness to the space. The planting needed to reinforce the venue’s identity while creating a welcoming and memorable environment for guests. Tropical Plant Rentals developed a cohesive outdoor planting strategy aligned with the material palette and curved geometry of the courtyard, using sculptural planting to introduce rhythm and visual layering throughout the space.

Hardy architectural plant species were selected to perform reliably in the semi-open courtyard conditions beneath overhead glazing. Multi-stem specimens introduce vertical structure while mid-level and low planting create density at eye level, combining varied textures and foliage colours to add depth and layered visual interest. Integrated circular planters reinforce the curved architectural geometry, while engineered soil systems ensure durability and resilience within a high-traffic hospitality environment. The project was delivered in close collaboration with Impression Projects to achieve the design intent within the refined venue setting.

Installation was carefully coordinated alongside multiple trades to meet tight project timelines within the hospitality fit-out schedule. Plant selection and positioning were designed to work within restricted site conditions without impeding circulation or usable space. With access limited by narrow pathways and multiple flights of stairs, Tropical Plant Rentals developed a custom strategy to minimise weight and equipment requirements. Planter boxes were constructed on-site and fitted with integrated water reservoirs to support long-term plant health while reducing structural load.

The sculptural planting composition introduces lush greenery and natural texture within the courtyard, enhancing the dining atmosphere and strengthening the identity of the venue. Layered planting and curved planters create a welcoming outdoor environment that feels immersive and visually distinctive for guests.

Maintenance schedules are adapted to suit the venue’s operating hours and seasonal changes, ensuring minimal disruption to hospitality operations. As outdoor environments evolve with changing weather conditions, plant selection is proactively reviewed and adjusted where required to maintain the design intent and ensure long-term plant performance.
